The world today is highly influenced by a new language called technology. The influence is so great that mastering that new language has become a must. Speaking of advanced technology, blockchain is perhaps the most intriguing and influencing technology that took the world by a storm recently. The growth of blockchain technology is so rapid that there is no one sector which didn’t get hit by it and education field is also included in this list.
Recent announcements state that the graduates of Greece could prove their educational qualifications using blockchain in future. This is done in collaboration with Cardano.
Cardano is a decentralized public blockchain platform and also a smart developing platform which tends to deliver more advanced features than any other protocol which is previously developed.
In order to verify the diplomas of graduated issued by Cardano, the national research and educational network of Greece is said to be collaborated with IOHK, a blockchain development and research company.
Now, this is a slightly unconventional thing that the national research and educational network of Greece is about to launch an app which is a private ledger version of Cardano, unlike its usual public ledger version. This means that not everyone can access it but only a very few selective ones can perform block transactions through it.
IOHK has deep ties with academic educational stuff from the beginning. So it is no wonder they are collaborating with universities to hand out diplomas. This will reduce the paperwork and will make it easy to have access to those files. It also helps to find out who holds an actual degree without much effort. Thus it will be reducing the chances for scams. As most of the process deals with handing out degrees and verifying them Cardano must maintain a private ledger.
Using of blockchain to store diplomas and to handout degrees is not a new thing to do. Previously MIT launched its own pilot project to do the same task. But the Cardano project it very unique in its own way from that of MIT’s. Only three Greek Universities are taking part and adopting this project presently and they are- Democritus University of Thrace, the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, and Athens University of Economics and Business.
